Race to Knock Out Hunger

Events

Here are the different types of volunteer events that will be happening in 2014. Modern Woodmen is excited to "Knock Out Hunger" in the Quad Cities!

Kick-off - Modern Woodmen Night, June 19: A celebration of Modern Woodmen, Modern Woodmen members and families, the community and helping to feed the hungry. Pack the truck: Bring nonperishable food items to donate to River Bend Foodbank. Those who donate could win the chance to sit in the Modern Woodmen Suite during the game.

Home Office Food Drive, June 16-19: Modern Woodmen home office employees will participate in a four-day food drive.  Modern Woodmen will collect canned foods and nonperishable food items for River Bend Foodbank. All food collected will help "Pack the Truck" on Modern Woodmen Night.

Mobile Food Drives, June-August: Modern Woodmen members and volunteers will organize and coordinate mobile food drives in different Quad City communities. On each date, members of the community requiring food assistance can come to the Mobile Food Drive and receive free food. River Bend Foodbank will assist with the coordination of the mobile food drives.

·         June 21, 2014 - Second Baptist church, 919 6th Avenue, Rock Island

·         July 12, 2014 - Goose Creek Park, 259 W. 61st Street, Davenport
·         August 23, 2014 – Sacred Heart Cathedral, 422 E. 10th Street Davenport

Backpack Program, every Friday in June: Modern Woodmen volunteers will work with Prince of Peace to distribute backpacks on Friday afternoons. Backpacks will be stuffed with meals and drinks for children who are food insufficient in the local community.

Meal Packing - Meals from the Heartland, Aug. 16: Modern Woodmen is working with Meals from the Heartland to package nearly 50,000 meals for the hungry. All Modern Woodmen employees can participate in the meal packing event.

    • Meals from the Heartland is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization composed of volunteers who package meals for delivery to starving people around the world as well as right here in Central Iowa and elsewhere in the United States. Individuals, businesses, schools, churches and various civic organizations have come together to show the nation and the world what people who truly care can accomplish.

Race to Knock Out Hunger, Sept.20:  5k charity run, walk and fun run to support River Bend Foodbank. This is the final event of our home office project to support River Bend Foodbank. All proceeds will go toward River Bend Foodbank and a celebratory post-race party will recognize River Bend for it's dedication to the Quad City community.  To participate in the race or to learn more, visit Race to Knock Hunger.
