Modern Woodmen donates $10,000 to American Red Cross

Modern Woodmen of America has joined the American Red Cross to give local families in need hope and comfort by making a $10,000 donation to provide disaster services. The funds will be used to support the Red Cross efforts to provide shelter, food and assistance to families when faced with a disaster.

“For nearly 130 years, Modern Woodmen’s focus has been on improving the quality of life for families and communities,” said W. Kenny Massey, president and CEO of Modern Woodmen. “This donation is another way to accomplish this in our community and throughout the Midwest.”

Since July 1, 2011, the Red Cross has assisted 34 families and 126 individuals who have lost their homes to a fire. These families often needed shelter, food, clothing and more importantly, emotional support. As a fraternal financial services organization, Modern Woodmen understands the difference that the American Red Cross can make to these families and is committed to making sure that the Red Cross is always there. Modern Woodmen is also always there for its members, providing life insurance and member benefits in times of need.

All Red Cross disaster assistance is free, given as a gift from the community to the community.

“Modern Woodmen has been a generous supporter of the Red Cross and we are honored and grateful to be receiving this donation,” said Betsy Pratt, CEO, American Red Cross of the Quad Cities Area. “This gift will help us to provide lifesaving services in our community and is another example of how our community pitches in when our neighbors are in need.”

A gift of any size to the American Red Cross assists to save the day when disaster strikes. Whether it be when a neighbor’s house burns down, when someone needs a lifesaving blood transfusion, when a family needs to contact a deployed service member in an emergency, or when a child needs a hug and a blanket – Red Cross is there. Your gift supports the lifesaving mission of the American Red Cross in your community, across the country, and around the world! Learn more about the Red Cross by calling (309) 743-2166.
