The big picture

Member Roger Shaull, Mansfield, Ohio, knew he needed to do something. It was 1997, and he’d just started a new job after being laid off from his previous. He needed a safe place to put the money he’d built up in his 401(k).

That’s where Modern Woodmen comes in. Roger and his wife, Norma, met with Financial Representative Greg Boyce, also from Mansfield. Greg helped the Shaulls set up Modern Woodmen annuities and, later, life insurance coverage for Roger. The couple became part of the local Modern Woodmen chapter and its activities as well.
The Shaulls and others find value in their Modern Woodmen membership and all it offers. Do you know what is available to you as a member? Take a look at the big picture.
Financial security despite living too long or dying too soon
Modern Woodmen retirement products can help you make sure you and yours don’t outlive your savings. They can also provide a feeling of security.
“Our annuities have provided a haven of stability for our money,” Roger says.
Modern Woodmen life insurance coverage is perhaps the most important benefit offered. While Roger primarily purchased it to help family members cover final expenses, he sees value beyond that
“I believe my children will see my life insurance as a good example,” he notes.
Resources for families and communities
Our more than 773,000 members across the country are organized into local chapters and youth service clubs. These groups meet local needs through social, educational and volunteer opportunities.
The Shaulls especially enjoy their chapter’s social outings, where they have a meal and renew relationships with fellow members. “We can see and interact with other people in the fraternal community who hold values similar to ours,” Roger says.
Investment products, banking services and additional insurance products
Members also have access to additional financial services products and banking services.
Registered representatives can help members access investment products like mutual funds, education savings plans, variable annuities and more through a wholly owned subsidiary, MWA Financial Services Inc.
And Modern Woodmen Bank offers free online banking with competitive rates and rewards at
“Our Modern Woodmen savings account has a higher interest rate than our local bank,” Roger notes. He and Norma like how easy it is to make deposits and withdrawals by mail and by phone. Other members prefer the bank’s online and mobile services.
Additionally, members in most states can contact their representative about accessing long-term care insurance, disability income insurance, major medical insurance and other brokered insurance products available through MWAGIA Inc., a Modern Woodmen subsidiary.
The more you know
The more you know about the big picture of your Modern Woodmen membership, the bigger difference you can make for your family and your community.
“There is something for everyone,” Roger says, “so it’s well worth anyone’s time to research all that is available.”
