Meet the Modern Woodmen cast here to help you and your family

From a representative who helps a family protect themselves financially to a youth service club leader making sure her members learn self-confidence, Modern Woodmen is full of people helping members and their communities.

Take a minute to meet just a few examples from the cast of Modern Woodmen people serving you.

The financial representative
Helping you plan for the future

Brian NelsonBrian Nelson, a representative in Hokes Bluff, Ala., says one of the most fulfilling cases he worked on was when he helped a member add an accidental death rider to his Modern Woodmen life insurance certificate. Three days later, the man was in a serious car accident. Fortunately, he survived and thanked Brian.

“He knew it was money well spent,” Brian says. “His wife was so thankful too. Earning a good income is nice, but moments like that are what really drive me.”

The youth service club leader

Helping today’s kids

Lakesia ThamesLakesia Thames, Jacksonville, Ark., has served as a club leader since 2002, and she’s watched her members develop self-confidence, social skills and the spirit of volunteerism.

“As a mother, I know how important it is to make sure children are growing up with the right values,” she says. “I like knowing I’m able to impart those things to the kids in my community.”

The camp secretary

Helping a community

Marilyn Colyer-NeeceAs a camp secretary, Marilyn Colyer-Neece helps organize enriching activities for members – such as volunteer events or educational activities.

In Marilyn’s most fulfilling event, she and her camp members purchased food and other basic care items for an elderly woman near Christmas.

“She was overwhelmed,” says Marilyn, who is also a Modern Woodmen financial representative. “My members were shining with pride about what they’d done.”

The regional director

Helping to lead

Jeff SowardsJeff Sowards, who serves as a regional director with Modern Woodmen in Hurst, Texas, loves watching members’ children and grandchildren join Modern Woodmen.

“We’ve served generations of families,” Jeff says. “That really says something about what we’re able to offer.”

Representatives who aspire to leadership positions, as Jeff did, gain mentoring and advice as they grow in their careers.

“We’re looking to mentor people who will then build great relationships with their members,” he says. “It all comes back to that idea of service.”
