Modern Woodmen of America Cares program raises thousands for terrorist attack victims
Members of Modern Woodmen of America, a fraternal life insurance organization headquartered in Rock Island, have raised nearly $88,000 to help families of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack victims.
“Our members across the nation conduct many volunteer service programs for their own communities each year,” says Modern Woodmen of America’s Fraternal Director Byron Carlson. “This was an opportunity for us to help those affected by the tragedy in the New York City and Washington DC communities.”
As part of the Modern Woodmen of America Cares program, Modern Woodmen adult chapters, called camps, and Modern Woodmen Youth Service Clubs across the country have spent nearly 6,600 volunteer hours selling United States flag decals, holding bake sales and conducting numerous other fund-raisers since last fall. Modern Woodmen’s home office has matched the funds raised, donating a total of $87,840.84 for the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund.
“These dollars will provide college education assistance to financially needy children and spouses of those killed or permanently disabled from the Sept. 11 attack on America,” Carlson explains.
Additionally, Modern Woodmen made a direct, $50,000 corporate donation to the United Way’s September 11th Fund last fall to help those affected by these events.
Modern Woodmen serves more than 750,000 members nationwide, offering life insurance, annuity and investment products, along with fraternal member benefits for families and their communities.
