Three Quad-City locations to receive trees from Modern Woodmen and WQAD

Top vote-getters in Plant A Tree Quad Cities announced

On Monday, Modern Woodmen of America and WQAD announced the top three winners of Plant A Tree Quad Cities. The announcement follows a week-long promotion at www.wqad.com. Viewers chose where to donate 125 trees, helping replace those destroyed by the storm on Mon., July 21.

“Nearly 1,000 local residents voted online,” says Jill Weaver, corporate communications manager at Modern Woodmen. “It’s been a true community effort, and Modern Woodmen is proud to donate the trees to replenish these local areas.”

The top three locations have been selected to receive a portion of up to 125 trees to be planted in the fall.

  • Chippiannock Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill., received more than 46 percent of online votes.
  • Black Hawk State Historic Site in Rock Island, Ill. received more than 20 percent of online votes.
  • John Deere Road in Moline, Ill. received 12 percent of online votes.

“These are all deserving community locations,” says Larry Rosmilso, president and general manager at WQAD. “This is an excellent opportunity to have a positive impact following the storms.”

Meyer Landscape & Design, Inc. also joined Plant A Tree Quad Cities as a sponsor to provide discounted trees to the chosen locations. This partnership will allow more mature trees to be planted in the community. As a locally-owned business, Meyer Landscape & Design, Inc. has seen the devastation caused by the storms and wanted to help locations impacted in the community.

Modern Woodmen’s Plant A Tree Program, initiated in 2004, gives Modern Woodmen members nationwide the opportunity to plant trees in their own communities. As a fraternal organization, Modern Woodmen protects families with financial products and improves quality of life. Planting trees is one way the organization helps create a secure future for families, communities and the environment.

Founded in 1883 as a fraternal benefit society, Modern Woodmen of America celebrates 125 years of serving members and their communities. The organization offers financial services and fraternal member benefits to individuals and families throughout the United States.
