Modern Woodmen and WQAD team up to replenish the community

“Plant A Tree Quad Cities” to replant trees destroyed by storms

Modern Woodmen of America and WQAD announced their sponsorship of “Plant A Tree Quad Cities,” which will donate 125 trees to nonresidential areas to replant after the storm that devastated the community on Mon., July 21. The locations will be chosen through an online vote at wqad.com, beginning at 5 p.m. on Fri., July 25.

“After the storms passed in the Quad Cities, there was a lot of picking up to do,” says Modern Woodmen’s Jill Weaver. “Modern Woodmen and WQAD knew there must be a way we can help get our neighborhoods back to normal.”

Local area residents are encouraged to log onto wqad.com and vote for the location they believe needs replanted trees. The top vote getters will receive trees. Up to 125 trees (valued at up to $150 each) will be distributed and planted in the fall.

“This partnership for Plant A Tree Quad Cities is a great fit,” says WQAD’s Larry Rosmilso. “We’re excited that Modern Woodmen can provide the trees for the community and that WQAD can help get the word out.”

Modern Woodmen’s Plant A Tree Program, initiated in 2004, gives members the opportunity to plant trees in their own communities. As a fraternal organization, Modern Woodmen protects families with financial products and improves quality of life. Planting trees is an important and easy way to create a secure future for families, communities and the environment.

  • Trees help offset the impact of greenhouse gases.
  • People appreciate the aesthetic beauty of tree-filled neighborhoods and communities.
  • With green areas disappearing in some areas, new trees are a welcome refuge for birds, animals and insects.

“Modern Woodmen and its members have planted more than 80,000 trees in the past four years through the national Plant A Tree Program,” Weaver adds. “This project is another great way to impact our home office community with a nationwide program.”

Founded in 1883 as a fraternal benefit society, Modern Woodmen of America celebrates 125 years of serving members and their communities. The organization offers financial services and fraternal member benefits to individuals and families throughout the United States.
