Amarillo, Texas
Modern Woodmen representative since 1988

Sammy SaiedAsk Tom and Rue about themselves, and they may have little to say.

“We’re probably the two most unremarkable people you’ve ever met,” says Tom. But these Modern Woodmen members from Texas, wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks to good retirement planning and advice from Modern Woodmen representative Sammy Saied, Amarillo, the couple can live their golden years as unremarkably as they please.

No worries
In the early 1990s, the business owner across the street asked Tom if he was interested in selling his furniture store.

“It scared me to death,” Tom says. “I didn’t know if I was ready, but I was 67 and figured it was time to think about doing something else.” About three weeks later, he was officially retired.

Tom now spends his days serving on volunteer committees. Rue keeps busy sewing and embroidering. She also plays dominoes every Tuesday and bridge one Wednesday a month. “When she’s doing that, I try to sneak off and play golf,” Tom chuckles.

A representative’s guidance
Tom and Rue may feel their lives are unremarkable, but they also feel fortunate to be able to live so freely.

“When you retire, you hope you have enough set back to continue the way you’ve been living for the last several years,” says Tom. With Sammy’s guidance and the help of Modern Woodmen life insurance and investment products, the couple had been building their savings for years.

“We’ve invested conservatively, so we have enough income to pretty well take care of everything,” says Tom. “With what Sammy has done for us, we can continue our way of life for as long as we need to.”

Tom is glad he worked closely with his Modern Woodmen representative before and after retirement.

“I didn’t want to sit with a computer and watch my stocks every day. I’ve got friends who do, but I’d rather let Sammy worry about that,” he says. “If you’ve got a nest egg, and you’ve got somebody you trust taking care of it for you, then you can go play golf or whatever else you want to do.”

For Tom and Rue, that’s about as unremarkably wonderful as you can get.
