The Modern Woodmen Magazine
The College Scholarship Program is designed to encourage qualified young Modern Woodmen members to develop their talents and continue their formal education beyond high school.

High-school seniors who are Modern Woodmen members can apply for one of 39 scholarships and 100 additional awards presented annually. These include:

National scholarships
Each year national scholarships of $16,000 will be awarded to three winners chosen from all qualifying applicants. Scholarship funds are distributed equally over four years of $4,000 per year for undergraduate study at the accredited college or university of the student’s choice.

Regional scholarships
Thirty-six regional scholarships are also awarded annually to six winners selected in each of six geographic regions of the United States. Regional scholarship winners receive awards of $12,000, $11,000, $10,000, $9,000, $8,000 or $7,000, distributed equally over four years.

Additional awards
Onetime, $500 awards are presented to 100 students, selected randomly from remaining qualified applicants.

Eligibility
A student eligible to apply for a college scholarship must be:

  • a secondary school senior. (A senior is defined as any student who will graduate between Jan. 1 and Aug. 31 in the year in which the scholarship is initially awarded.)
  • a beneficial member of Modern Woodmen for at least two years as of Sept. 30 of his or her graduating year of high school. (The benefit certificate held by the student must be on a premium-paying basis or must be paid up according to the terms of the certificate other than through use of the nonforfeiture option.)
  • in the upper half of his or her graduating class.

Application Deadline
Applications will be available online beginning June 1, 2009.   Submit your application by Jan. 1, 2010.
