Thousands of wonderful projects happen every year on Join Hands Day, a national day of service sponsored by Modern Woodmen and other fraternal benefit societies.

This page spotlights past Join Hands Day projects that brought together youths and adults to touch lives.


Caneyville, Kentucky

Supporting first-time mothers

Modern Woodmen youth club members in Caneyville worked with volunteers from the Family Support Center on Join Hands Day. They made fleece blankets and collected supplies to donate to first-time mothers at the Health Department.


Cosby, Tennessee

Helping children in need

This group created "bags of love" for children displaced in the county due to drug-related incidents on Join Hands Day 2008. The fabric bags included a pillow, personal care products, a toy, games and a disposable camera. The group included a Modern Woodmen youth club, Modern Woodmen camp, and the Jenkin's Chapel Ladies' Auxiliary and Men's Union.

Beautifying a community area

Three Davenport Modern Woodmen Youth Service Clubs partnered with a Modern Woodmen camp, the local park board and a veteran's organization to refresh a garden area at a local community zoo. The volunteers planted flowers and refreshed soil and mulch. They also planted corn and beans for a learning area.

Giving nursing home residents the gift of caring

Two Modern Woodmen youth clubs joined with two Modern Woodmen camps and the B.W.C. Ladies Prayer Ministry group on Join Hands Day. The group of volunteers from Dumas collected socks and underwear and distributed them to residents of a local nursing home.

Bringing cheer to local seniors

One Modern Woodmen youth club collaborated with the Carrier Mills Church of God seniors and the Carrier Mills Church of God youth group in Harrisburg. The youth members played games with the seniors, gave them gifts and held an ice cream social.

Rejuvenating a local park

This Join Hands Day project allowed volunteers from Ramer to clean up a local park. The group included two Modern Woodmen youth clubs and the Ramer baseball league. Projects included painting equipment and clearing grass and growth from the tennis and basketball courts.

Adding color to a nursing home courtyard

Two Modern Woodmen camps, a youth club and a local nursing home residents’ council worked together for this Rock Falls Join Hands Day project. The volunteers planted flowers and cleaned up the courtyard for residents to enjoy.

Brightening two Habitat for Humanity homes

A Modern Woodmen youth club and camp partnered with master gardeners, Boy Scouts and the local high school to landscape two Habitat for Humanity homes. The volunteers planted shrubs and flowers, mulched the areas and created stepping stones for the home owners.

Building a functional deck to a park building

A Boy Scout troop partnered with a high school building trades class to build a deck for Blackhawk State Historic Site in Rock Island. The Boy Scouts learned how to use tools from the students.

Bringing Christmas joy into the spring

A group of more than 150 Twin Falls volunteers gathered together to wrap and distribute gifts to residents of local nursing homes. Deemed “Christmas in May,” the Join Hands Day event brought together Modern Woodmen camps and youth clubs, the Red Hat Society, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, local church groups, area businesses and more.
